Tree Diagrams Worksheets

What Are Probability Tree Diagrams? Typically, we utilize a probability equation to help show the possible outcomes of an event. Instead of using complicated equations, we can use probability trees to help simplify the process. These probability trees allow us to visualize the mapped-out outcomes of an event. In some cases, we cannot figure out whether to add or multiply the probabilities. We can solve this confusion by using probability trees. Moreover, seeing our probability problem as a graph rather than equations can help us address the problem in a better way. Probability trees are broken down into two main parts, namely, branches and ends. We write the probability of an event on the branch of the tree, and the likely outcome is written at the end of the branch.

  • Basic Lesson

Introduces the concept of tree diagrams and their possible outcomes. How many elements are in the sample space of tossing one coin? Draw a tree diagram to illustrate the possible outcomes. A sample space is a set of all possible outcomes for an activity or experiment.

What Are Sample Spaces?

An important concept in mathematics is probability. What is probability? It is the number of possible outcomes or a number of ways we can achieve success. When developing the concept of probability, we have to understand what a sample space is. It is a very important part of probability, and without understanding this, one cannot proceed further in probability. Sample space is also known as a possibility space or sample description space. It is a set that comprises all possible outcomes of a specific experiment. Sample space is represented by S, Ω, or ∪. The elements of sample space may include words, letters, numbers, or symbols.

Medical Stats

Here are some interesting (yet disturbing) medical statistics: There are 57 people who are not doctors but play them on TV, however, there is an estimated 5,840 people who play doctors in real hospitals, but do not have a medical degree and are NOT doctors at all! Now that's scary!
