Ordering Decimals and Fractions Worksheets

How to Order Decimals and Fractions Values - When ordering numbers, we put them in a sequence where they are either increasing or decreasing. Ordering normal integers is easy as they involve no decimal points and fractions. For some students ordering fractions and decimals is a bit difficult because of the way number are written or presented to them. Let's try to understand how to order decimals first with the help of a few examples. Assume we have numbers: 1.001, 0.113, and 1.101 Now, what we want you to do is order these numbers from least to greatest. Take a piece of paper and simply try that on your own before we give you the answers. Remember, you will only get better when you make a few mistakes. Ok, now let us do it together. The idea of placing these number is simple. You have to go from the highest value each number has on each point. For instance, the highest value on the first digit is 1 which is acquired by two number. Now which among the two numbers is the biggest. We then jump on to the next digit. On second place we have 0 and 1, which means that 1.101 is the biggest of the three. Now what if you have you have fractions and decimals in the same question and have been asked to put them in order? This is a much more complex math problem, but it can be done by following the basic. Suppose you have number 1/4, 1/8, 0.75 and 0.625 Before we place these numbers in order, we need to convert our fractions into decimals. So as we do the math, 1/4 is equal to 0.25, 1/8 is equal to 0.125. Hence, now can put them in order: 0.75, 0.625, 0.25 and 0.125.
