Fraction Addition Worksheets

How do you add the two values of two separate fractions together? Fractions are composed of two components. The top part of the fraction tells you the number of parts you have. The top portion is called the numerator. The bottom portion of the fraction is called the denominator. The denominator tells us who many parts there are in a whole. These components are important to consider when we need to add two fractions together. If the denominator of both fractions is the same, all we have to do is add the numerators together to find their sum. In some cases, this will result in a top heavy or improper fractions. When you want to find the sum of two fractions that have different denominators, you need to find a common denominator that will satisfy each fraction before you begin. Once you convert each fraction to a common denominator, just go back to what we explored previously and add those numerators.
