# Identify Objects On A Coordinate Grid Worksheets

How to Identify Objects on A Coordinate Grid - We are learning and solving algebraic expressions for many years now, but how did it come to existence? Many centuries ago, a French mathematician developed the coordinate plane of the axis. The coordinate plane, also known as the cartesian coordinate system, uses plot points and graph lines to discuss the algebraic relationship visually and also helps in interpreting algebraic concepts.

### How to Find Points on a Coordinate Grid

You must have remembered that in algebra a coordinate system or a coordinate grid is a 2-dimensional plane where there are two lines going from the center. The vertical line is called the y-axis and the horizontal line is called the x-axis. Both these axes have a negative value and a positive value. These values divide the entire coordinate system into four quadrants. While in the center there is origin with coordinates (0, 0). Finding point on a coordinate grid is not exceedingly difficult. It is exactly like finding two intersecting points based on their x and y values. The first number corresponds to the x-coordinates and the second to the y-coordinate. The completeness property for points in the plane tells us two things: Exactly one point in the plane is named given the numbers of the ordered pair and exactly one ordered pair of numbers names a given point in the plane. To graph a point, one draws a dot at the coordinates that corresponds to the ordered pair. It's always a good idea to start at the origin. The x-coordinate tells you have many steps you have to take to the right (positive) or left (negative). And the y-coordinate tells you have many steps to move up (positive) or down (negative).

#### Coordinate Grid in the Real World

This technique has so much different applications, it is crazy. When ever we are mapping an area, this is a fundamental skill that is super helpful. The thing to remember is that maps apply to just about anything that includes a form of terrain.
