The math and the real life everywhere require the useful skill of
counting. The correct way to count something, especially, money is
a very important factor of concern. It is always better to teach the
children to count, before their schooling starts. To teach and make
a little kid understand the method of counting is a difficult job.
To make this difficult task easy, you can implement several funny
methods of counting that a kid usually loves.
The first step is to teach them numbers and then try teaching them
counting the numbers in order. This is the basic method used in schools
and other institutions to make a child count the numbers or money.
The introduction of funny methods to teach counting may attract the
attention of a kid largely. Try to implement the below mentioned five
funny ways to teach a child counting.
Activity 1: Sing Along Counting Rhymes:
The sing along counting rhymes is the best method to teach counting
to a child between three to five years of age. The kids pay more attention
to funny music and songs. Therefore, the songs or games related to
numbers and counting help a lot to make the teaching easier. "One,
two, three, four, five once I caught a fish Alive" is a very common
and attractive song that every kid loves to hear and understand. Along
with funny songs, the mother needs to use the fingers and toes to
count with the music. The number song along with the body action makes
a good impact on the child about the number system.
Activity 2: Snacks and Cards for Counting:
There are varieties of number cards available in the market. Allow
the child to play with the number cards whenever ready to play. Without
giving much pressure, make the child to pick the card in order. Repeat
the process every day until the kid becomes familiar about numbers
and counting.
Snacks are other properties that attract the child's attention. Count
aloud the pieces of snacks before giving them. Ask them to count each
piece they put into their mouth and continuously, encourage them for
their good work. The child loves to eat the snack and therefore, makes
the counting with fun and pleasure.
Activity 3: Connecting Blocks and Stairs:
Ask the child to build a tower with the connecting blocks. Make them
count aloud with each block fitting and tell them to destroy the tower,
once they connect 10 blocks. Children usually love to destroy beautiful
things and therefore, show great interest in building, counting and
destroying the blocks.
Whenever the children go up or down the stairs, ask them to count
the stairs. They tend to repeat the procedure of climbing up and down
the stairs once found interesting. This may help them to learn counting
easily.
Activity 4: Allow The Kid To Shop Around:
Inside the home, build up a vegetable market with several potatoes,
tomatoes and onions. Give them money and ask them to bring two potatoes,
three tomatoes and five onions. Correct them, if they bring wrong
items.
If the child is around 7 years or more, take along to the vegetable
market and ask the child to pay for the vegetables. This makes the
child understand the value of money and the correct way of handling
it.
Activity 5: Team Work to Help Counting:
Call few children and make them sit in a circle. Ask them to count
from one to thousand and provide them with a collection of small tiny
toys. Make them play games with the toys. Ask them to pick up the
maximum number of toys and make them count louder.
