What is Division in Math?

The foundation of mathematics lies upon two things, numbers and arithmetic operations. In mathematics, there are four basic arithmetic operations which include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Out of these four arithmetic operations, multiplication and division are two operations that many students struggle with. The general definition of division is the separation of a quantity or an object into smaller parts. In mathematics, division holds the same meaning. There are two symbols of division and these are รท and /. There are three different ways you can write a division sum; a ÷ b, a/b, a/b. Division is the splitting of a quantity into equal portions, parts, or groups. It can be said that division is the opposite if multiplying. Multiplying increases the quantity whereas division reduces the quantity.
